Lightburn worked fine a few days ago but now will not open. I’ve tried running in compatability mode, run as administrator, repaired c++, uninstalled and reinstalled it all with no luck. Any ideas? I don’t even get an error message. Just nothing happens.
I’m having the exact same issue. I ended up using v15 that opened.
Watching for response
Check Windows ‘task manager’ to see if LightBurn is still running in the background.
On Windows, Ctrl-Shift-Esc is the keyboard shortcut.
Hi,
I’m having the same issue.
Windows 10 updated 20hours ago.
Thanks John, that was actually my first port of call.
I’m going to try reinstalling Visual c++ tomorrow it seams to have been successful in some cases
We’ve seen some issues with a recent Windows update causing changes to the C++ redistributable release. Please see the following for more details if you have issues after a recent windows update: Lightburn won't open after v1.7.0 update - #2 by gilaraujo
Hi I just found a pretty simple fix.
1 open add or remove programs
3.type “vis” in the search bar.
3. In the list that comes up click on the bottom one then click repair.
(Don’t restart yet)
4. Repeat one above and
Repeat until the option to repair doesn’t appear then restart.
Then remove lightburn and reinstall.
This worked for me hope it helps. strong text
I finally got mine to work. Really don’t know what I did or how I did it. Thanks for the advice!
So far it looks like Windows 10 was impacted by the recent update.
I’m still reviewing this and will test on Windows 11 systems as well.
I think there’s enough here to work from. I’ll pin this thread so other Windows 10 users can find it easily. Thank you all for working through this.
Edit: (Pinned for 2 weeks.)
Thank you. This worked for me.
I had to do this recently after a previous windows update and forgot the process . This did work for me .
Cheers.
I can confirm that the windows update seems to have reverted the MSVC distribution to an earlier one. Re-installing it via the links found on this page fixed the problem for me: Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn
this worked for me as well. Running Win 11 Home ed. with latest version of lightburn issue occurred after last Windows update on 12/12/2024.
Had the same issue on win 10. I deinstalled including driver and settings in users\user\AppData\Local\Lightburn. Then reinstalled everything. Worked for me.

A recent Windows update changed some Windows Runtime components that LightBurn uses. You may need to restore the components in order to open LightBurn.
(Thanks, Windows Update…)
Please install the two files below if you’re having issues, and then try again.
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
If you have any issues, please let us know either here in this thread, or at Support@LightBurnSoftware.com
I have tried all the fixes that are listed here…vc_redist.x64, etc but to no avail. What else can I do??
Hi Jerry,
Try starting LightBurn again, and then use Event Viewer to look in your Windows Application Logs for any errors relating to LightBurn.exe.
One way to do this quickly, is to open the Windows Run dialog (Win+R), and paste in the following command:
powershell -Command "(Get-EventLog application -After (Get-Date).AddDays(-7)|Where-Object{$_.Source -eq 'Application Error' -and $_.Message -like '*LightBurn.exe*'}|Select-Object TimeGenerated,Message -First 3|Format-List)|clip"
If any recent errors are found they will be copied to the system clipboard so you can just paste them here. In the example given below, we see that LightBurn had trouble using ‘MSVCP140.dll’ which is part of the Visual C++ Redistributable Package.
